SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

• The Penguins open their 35th season at home, losing 3-1, to the defending Stanley Cup champions Colorado Avalanche.
• Rick Kehoe is named the team's 20th head coach on October 15.
• Johan Hedberg records his first career shutout, making 29 saves in a 3-0 Penguins' win in Ottawa on October 18.
• Alexei Kovalev records back-to-back hat tricks, November 13 at New Jersey and November 14 vs. the New York Islanders. The six goal outbrust came immediately after Kovalev missed 13 games following knee surgery.
• Mario Lemieux leads Canada to an Olympic Gold Medal.
• Alexei Kovalev records his 500th career point December 11, against the Washington Capitals.
• Mario Lemieux plays his 800th career game on January 12 vs. St. Louis.
• The Penguins defeat the Washington Capitals, 6-2, on March 24 at Mellon Arena. Six different Penguins score goals.
