• Ed Johnston is named head coach of the Penguins on July 15.
• Paul Gardner scores four goals vs. Philadelphia on December 13, becoming the first player in Penguins history to accomplish this feat.
• Penguins set franchise record with six consecutive victories from February 22 to March 4.
• Rick Kehoe's 55 goals sets a single-season franchise record.
• St. Louis' Mike Crombeen scores at 5:16 of the second OT to give St. Louis a 4-3 win in the deciding game of the preliminary playoff round.
