BOB JOHNSON
After his introduction as head coach when he entered the seating bowl and looked up at the dome of the Civic Arena
• In Bob Johnson's first season as head coach, the Penguins would capture the Patrick Division and Wales Conference en route to the club's first Stanley Cup Championship on May 25, 1991. Sadly, Johnson would not see the first banner raising in person. Johnson died on November 26, 1991.


• Evgeni Malkin's name will be added to a new NHL Scoring Title banner for his Art Ross win in 2009.
Pittsburgh Penguins Championship Banners

The Penguins watch as the 2008-09 Stanley Cup Championship banner is raised to the roof on the final opening night in Mellon Arena's history, giving way to the Consol Energy Center.



The Penguins updated the design of the championship banners at the Mellon Arena on October 11, 2008. The team hung two banners to celebrate the 2007-08 Atlantic Division Championship & the Eastern Conference Championship. In addition, the Penguins hung banners to honor players that have won the NHL's MVP and Art Ross titles. (below)
