Dedicated to the Preservation of Pittsburgh Hockey History

This is the place where hockey was developed in Pittsburgh.
When the Schenley Park Casino opened on May 29, 1895 it was North America's first indoor skating rink. The ice at the Casino lured many young Canadian players to the city and attracted Pittsburgh residents to hockey.
The Casino did not last long it was destroyed by fire 18 months after it opened but it sparked an interest in hockey for Pittsburgh that has lasted 114 years. |

We feature the history of Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Hornets, Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Phantoms, Pittsburgh Forge and Pittsburgh Shamrocks. This is what made Pittsburgh Hockey History on this date, a page that changes every day at midnight.
We present the city's hockey history timeline, jersey histories, arena descriptions, all-time uniform numbers, rosters and some statistical snippets that are complemented with photographs of Pittsburgh hockey artifacts. Every day our home page details milestones in Pittsburgh hockey history. It changes every day!

• Hobey Baker, America's Greatest Hockey Star, likely may have played the last game of his career in the Steel City.
• Long before Iceburgh, the Penguins had a real live penguin for a mascot, but he had a sad story.
• Can't remember the last time the Penguins scored a short-handed goal or on a penalty shot? Have a look at "THE LAST TIME" feature to refresh your memory.
• Here's a list of the 12 men from Western Pennsylvania that were good enough to crack an NHL roster.
